St. Wojciech hill

St. Wojciech hill is situated on the west of the Old Market. You can see there two churches, cemetary and the Poznan Army monument.


St. Wojciech church

This is a Gothic temple from the first the half of the 15th century. It had been extended until 1634.
Inside the church there are very interesting altars, the stone baptismal font, the crucifix from 16th century and tombs of famous Poles.

In front of the church there is a wooden belfry from the beginnig of the 17th century.

St. Jozef church

Building of this church got off the ground in the thirties of the 17th century and continued until 1677. A supervisor of this venture were architects Bonadura, and after his death, Catenazzi. This baroque church was built on the outline of the cross.


Cemetery

A cemetery is situated on the steep slope of the St. Wojciech hill and has 1,8 hectare area.
This is the place of eternal rest for many well-deserved citizens of Poznan: veterans of Napoleonic wars and national uprisings, scholars, people connected with culture and social activities.

Many of tomb- and headstones are really nice - the oldest one is from 1813.


Poznan Army monument

Poznan Army monument was unveiled in 1982 year and decipts resistance of Poznan Army against invaders in 1939.
Under the monument there is a mausoleum with Virtuti Militari cross.
