Citadel Citadel

Citadel is a name for about 93 hectar hill area, where until 1945 nineteenth-century military Fort Winiary was situated.
The fort was pulled down to make city's development possible. Fort Winiary was just one of many forts which created fortified ring together.

Today Citadel is the biggest park in Poznan.
In the midst of leisurely alleys there is an amphitheatre, 16 meter high belfry and many open air sculptures.
In former ammunition yard there is the Museum of Poznan Liberation with small exhibition of old armament. In other place there is Poznan Army Museum.

On the south slope there are cemetaries. The oldest one is from 19th century, others are: Polish Hero Cemetary, British Garrison Cemetary, Garrison Cemetary and Soviet Hero Cemetary.
