A philosophical exercise in Sim's life

Recently I learned from some younger person who is a fan of computer game The Sims, that when one of the Sims (the dramatis persona) is about to die, then the player may play dice for the life of the Sim. If the player wins, then the Sim becomes immortal in the game.

What happens to the immortal Sim when the computer is switched off? Is he/she somehow sleeping? Suppose one day the player decides to remove the game files completely.

Now the question is about the status of the Sim.
Has he/she died?
Is he/she sleeping?
Is he/she alive?

A comment by Patrick De Causmaecker (funny)
  • Immortality is boring; you cannot afford any risk. I think this implies that Sim is a he. (That is one important issue resolved, just by male politeness.)
  • Since he is immortal he did definitely not die.
  • All living creatures are bound to die one day, so he cannot be alive.
  • He may be sleeping, it does not matter how long since he is immortal anyhow and this is by far the safest option.
